How to Apply
Go to the following link and follow the instructions to create an account and to submit an application via CollegeNet:
Completed applications with all required documentation should be submitted between October 1 and February 1 preceding the fall semester of expected entrance. After you establish your account on CollegeNet, you can check the status of your application, upload required materials, including your resume or CV, research statement and writing samples, as well as update your contact information as needed. Application decisions will be communicated by email.

- Scanned copies may be uploaded as PDFs for admissions decision. However, if admitted, the applicant will not be able to enroll without an official transcript(s) showing undergraduate degree conferral on file. Official transcripts should be sent by regular mail, express mail, or electronically as described on the University of Houston Graduate School Website: Click Here
- Recommendation Letters and Form
- In your application, submit the names of three persons who are familiar with your competencies and your potential for doctoral education. It is recommended that two (2) of the letters be from doctoral-degreed tenure track faculty (i.e., current and/or former graduate level professors from your previous college or graduate program). Your references will receive an email with instructions for completing an online recommendation form. Please inform your references that they must use the online form and also to attach a scanned reference letter to accompany the form.
- Personal Statement of Purpose explaining why you want to join the specific graduate program to which you are applying
- Curriculum Vitae /Resume
- Optional: GRE Exam (The University of Houston's ETS institutional code for the GRE is 6870).
- $50 application fee (non-refundable)

- Test of English Proficiency:* The minimum TOEFL ( www.toefl.org ) score required is 79 for the internet-based test, with a minimum writing score of 20. The minimum TOEFL score for the paper-based exam is 550, with a minimum writing score of 58. The University of Houston’s ETS institutional code for the GRE and TOEFL is 6870. Or, the minimum IELTS (www.ielts.org) score required is 6.5 overall, minimum writing score of 6.5. The minimum score for the Duolingo (https://englishtest.duolingo.com/applicants) is 105. The testing agency should mail the official results directly to the University of Houston:
