Ocular Disease - Dallas
Mission Statement
The Ocular Disease Residency Program at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic is a one-year post-doctoral, clinical training program in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease and ocular manifestations of systemic disease. The residency provides advanced competency in knowledge and clinical skills through a scholarly, didactic, and clinical curriculum to highly qualified optometric graduates. Residents completing the program are expected to provide an advanced level of clinical care in ocular disease.
Program Description
Direct supervised patient care, as well as clinical attending experiences, will be completed at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic. The resident will participate in seminars and local optometric society continuing education meetings. Teaching involves supervision of fourth year professional students. The resident will work closely with the clinic director and clinical externs. The resident, under the guidance of the Program Coordinator, will create a lecture for students and write 4 case reports for potential publication. The resident will be encouraged to participate in poster and paper sessions at national optometric meetings.

- Deliver clinical services at a level which is satisfactory to the faculty, Program Coordinator, and the Director of Residency Programs.
- Maintain a record of patient names and associated information.
- Submit a abstract to a national or regional meeting.
- Deliver one presentation to fourth year optometry externs.
- Complete 4 case reports for potential publication
- Successfully complete all teaching assignments.
- Attend required seminars and continuing education programs.
- Complete all required evaluations of faculty, program, Program Coordinator.
Curriculum requirements in hours:
5 day work week between 43 to 47 hours per week
The following are required for program admission:
- Doctor of optometry degree (OD) from an Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) accredited school or college of optometry
- Two letters of reference from clinical faculty members
- Copy of all optometry transcripts
- Curriculum Vita and a letter of intent
- Pass all parts of the NBEO prior to the beginning of the residency
- A State of Texas Optometry license (completion of testing prior to beginning of program)
- Preference is given to candidates with a 3.0(out of 4.0) GPA or higher
